How to buy a Telegram username
You can buy a Telegram username on the official Fragment marketplace — for the GRAM(TON) cryptocurrency. Below, step by step: what to prepare, how to bid at auction, and how not to overpay.
Step 1. Check that the price is reasonable
Before buying, it's worth knowing how much the name is really worth. Value it with @UserRate_bot and look at the history of similar sales on Fragment. That way you won't overpay for an inflated price.
Step 2. Get a TON wallet and top it up
All settlements on Fragment are in GRAM(TON). Use the wallet built into Telegram (TON Space) or a separate one, such as Tonkeeper. Top it up with the needed amount plus a buffer for network fees.
Step 3. Find the username on Fragment
Go to Fragment, sign in via Telegram and connect your wallet. Enter the name you want in the search. Then it's one of two options:
- Fixed price. The owner listed the name for a specific amount — you can buy it right away.
- Auction. You need to bid above the minimum. If you're outbid you can raise your bid; the highest bid at the close wins.
Fee: the platform takes 5% per deal. Factor that into your budget. The minimum name length on Fragment is 4 characters (3-letter names aren't sold).
Step 4. Pay and receive the name
After winning the auction or buying at the fixed price, payment is charged in GRAM(TON), and the username is assigned to your account. Ownership is recorded on the TON blockchain — you can later reassign the name to a channel/bot or resell it.
How not to overpay
- Compare with a valuation and similar sales — don't fall for an inflated price tag.
- Remember manipulation. Some "expensive" deals in the history may be an owner buying their own name through a second wallet to fake a price — don't use such sums as a reference.
- Budget for the 5% fee on top of the name's price.
