Why make a Telegram username collectible
There's one main reason: secure ownership. A regular username is tied to your Telegram account — and if something happens to the account, you lose the name. A collectible one is stored in your crypto wallet and doesn't depend on the account.

Why a regular name can be lost
A regular username is just a "label" on your account. It exists as long as the account does. If the profile is deleted, banned for a violation, or hijacked — the attached name is released and gone. You don't own it in a legal sense; you only use it.
What a collectible username gives you
- True ownership. The name is issued as an NFT on the TON blockchain and sits in your non-custodial wallet (Tonkeeper, MyTonWallet, etc.). The keys are yours alone.
- It can't be revoked. As long as you hold the wallet keys, neither Telegram nor any third party can take the name — it's secured by a smart contract.
- It survives an account ban. Even if your Telegram account is banned, the collectible username stays in your wallet — you can reassign it to another account.
- Free transfer and sale. You can send the name to another TON wallet or list it for sale on Fragment, like any NFT.
Important for expensive names: the more valuable a username, the more it matters to own it as a collectible. Losing a name worth thousands of dollars to an account ban is painful — and completely avoidable if it's safely held in your wallet.
