A username can be bought on Fragment as a collectible NFT while at the same time being banned on Telegram itself. These are two independent facts: the sale is about the asset, the Telegram status is about whether the name actually works. Here's how to tell them apart.

Why a username can be banned in the first place

Telegram bans usernames over spam reports, fraud and other rule violations. The ban is usually tied to the actions of a previous owner — if a name changed hands several times, a new buyer can inherit a status they had nothing to do with.

Importantly, this doesn't stop the username from being traded as an NFT on Fragment — the asset stays liquid on the marketplace even if it can't actually be used on Telegram right now.

Clear signs a username is banned

• The link t.me/name doesn't open a profile, channel or bot, even though the name is clearly taken.
• Trying to set that name in your Telegram profile settings gives an error different from the usual "username taken".
• On the username's Fragment page there's a separate yellow or red status badge next to the sale info — easy to miss if you're only looking at the price.

How to check the status before buying

The most reliable way is not to scroll through Fragment's page looking for a small badge, but to send the username to @UserRate_bot.
